While I was in grad school getting my Master’s of Fine Arts in writing, I was also working full time and juggling a life outside of school.
I know firsthand what it takes to be a writer while struggling with the challenges of life, mental health, a full-time job, and lacking time.
The Vermont College of Fine Arts (VCFA) taught me how to balance those challenges while being an artist and a writer. Now I want to teach you. With my writing intensives, which are heavily influenced and inspired by my own experience as a student at VCFA, I will provide thorough writing guidance, criticism and feedback, a book list tailored to you, professional editing, publishing advice, and more.
My writing intensives are open to adults 18 and over; however, if a young adult over the age of 15 were to complete one of my writing mentorships (see below) and later was interested in a writing intensive, I would consider that as well. My writing mentorships are like mini writing intensives and are designed for teens and young adults between the ages of 13 and 18. Continue reading below to see what’s included for these services.

The writing intensive
This is a one-on-one writing intensive designed to mimic the structure and support of an MFA program, but without thousands of dollars in student debt.
You must be 18 or older to be considered for a writing intensive. There’s no application process – if you’re interested in the writing intensive and are committed to doing the work, I’d love to work with you. You’re welcome to work on any genre of writing for the intensive, but book-length projects would have a slightly different structure than what’s detailed below, and in fact, I’d more likely recommend one of my copyediting services instead.
The program includes the following:

-
Two timeline options: A four-week intensive and an eight-week intensive (prices vary, but both provide the same activities/perks listed below – just at a clipped pace for the four-week intensive)
-
Generative writing prompts and sessions to create new content or to revise old content
-
Consistent reading, discussion, and feedback on your work every week
-
A schedule that’s organized for and tailored to you while pushing and encouraging you to focus on the intensive as much as possible
-
Written feedback by me on every piece (which will include some line edits and heavy notes as well as many suggestions for revision)
-
A reading list that’s tailored to you and the kind of writing you’re working on
-
Regular live sessions and checkups to discuss your work and progress (which could be over the phone, in person, or virtual depending on where you live)
-
I will professionally edit one of your pieces (or multiple should your pieces be short) so that it’s ready for submission (if your work contains grammar errors, it’s far less likely to be accepted or even considered for publication)
-
We will then work together on the submission process – of which I have plenty experience navigating – and will plan to submit your work to at least five publications
-
Or if you’re working on a book, we will work on your synopsis and query letter
The writing mentorship
The writing mentorship is similar to the writing intensive but with less intensity and a shorter timeline. The mentorship is ideal for young adults between the ages of 13 and 18 and takes into mind school commitments and other responsibilities. Additionally, I will provide my feedback with healthy critique but will be kind, gentle, and understanding with their work and progress.
-
Two timeline options: Two weeks or four weeks
-
The mentorship is largely remote, but I would agree to in-person meetings with parental permission and supervision
-
This mentorship is focused on generative writing rather than on revision, submission, or publication, though I’m happy to chat about those things should the writer be further along in their process/craft
-
Written feedback by me on every piece
-
A recommended reading list at the end
-
And more
